Our goal is to provide service, support, advocacy to meet the needs of the Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing Communities and to increase community awareness of their needs and rights.

Communication Services

ASL Classes

American Sign Language classes are available in several locations and on Zoom. These classes are open to the Community. Courses are generally offered throughout the year in the evenings, once a week, for eight weeks.

ASL Course Descriptions:

ASL 1: A beginners class designed to teach sign language basics including, alphabet, basic conversational signs, language structure and an introduction to Deaf Culture.

ASL 2: Our intermediate class is designed to teach more advanced vocabulary and touch base on sentence structure.

ASL 3: This Advanced ASL class is intended to enhance conversation skills, language structure, and the use of facial expression.

Interpreting

Our Interpreters follow the RID code of professional conduct that ensures confidentiality and professionalism. Each Interpreter is required to have a degree in American Sign Language and pass our assessment. Please contact us for our competitive rates.

• Interpreting services are available 24/7, every day of the year and include:

• American Sign Language (ASL)

• Signed Exact English (SEE)

• Deaf-Blind Interpreting Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)
  

CSD provides interpreters for a variety of needs including, but not limited to:

• Hospitals

• Court appearances

• Police situations

• Employee or work meetings

• Educational settings

• Doctor’s appointments

• Other professional settings
  

C-Printing

C-Print captionists transcribe presented information into visibly accessible information. This service is recommended for those who are late-in-life Deaf or do not use American Sign Language. It is also very helpful in situations where the exact English used by the hearing party is essential to the message.

C-Print is most commonly used in educational settings, but is also used in meetings, legal settings, medical settings, seminars, workshops and much more.

Case Management Services

Confidential Individual, Couples, and Family Therapy
Qualified mental health professionals offer counseling and psychiatric medication management services to Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals, couples or families. Services are available within the office, at home, or in the community,

Mental Health/ Community Support Program (CSP)
CSD provides mental health and community support services within 13 counties of west-central Ohio. Support services include life skills training, advocacy, referral and other support based on needs. The program is designed to assist and support the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing to live independently in the community.

Information and Referral Services
Information about deafness and hearing problems is available on a variety of topics such as assistive devices, community resources, facts, statistics, and more.

Walk-In Services
No appointment is needed during walk-in hours for any Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing individual to receive services which include, but are not limited to:

• Advocacy and support

• Consultation

• Asistance with phone calls

• Understanding bills and other paperwork

• Job applications

• Other questions

Deaf Youth Prevention Services

DeafEND
DeafEND is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) prevention education program targeting Deaf/Hard of Hearing school aged students, K-12th to promote that they are “too good for drugs.” This is accomplished by reducing risk factors, building protective instincts, resiliency, addressing mental wellness of today’s teens, and effectively increasing their likelihood to remain drug free by adopting healthy development skills as their own.

TI-DYE Teen Leadership Activities
Teen Institute - Deaf Youth Empowerment program (TI-DYE), is a leadership program for High School Students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing to provide education about healthy development, leadership, and prevention of unhealthy decisions. TI-DYE involves various interactive training activities with the youth to empower youth to be confident and develop the skills needed to become healthy adults and to make a real difference within their environment.

KODA (Kids of Deaf Adults) Camp
KODA Camp is a one-week overnight camp for youth ages 9 to 15 who are children of Deaf Adults. KODA’s participate in a fun-filled week of outdoor activities while focusing on positive youth development, through team building, leadership, self-esteem and prevention education activities. Youth have the opportunity to meet other KODA’s, build relationships and make lasting friendships.
